"People always want the things they don't have.
Other people's traits always seem better, thus we become envious.
Yet our own merits remain elusive.
But, merits exists in everyone, just in different forms."
Takama Saito, Hitsuji no Namida
"Why are people always envious of what others have?
Why don't they realise their own good points?"
Honda Tohru, Fruits Basket
I believe I'm the type of person that is easily affected by another's words. I'm also one with a sort of inferior complex which developed in childhood partly because of my dad. I was always compared to my other cousins who were around the same age as me but were a few months younger. I felt pretty dumb and useless whenever I heard my dad say something about how they're getting better test results than me or what not... yea, depressing stuff. I remember comforting myself from time to time by saying, "they've got older siblings, that's why they're smarter and better at stuff than me who's an eldest sibling.." I envied people with older siblings because apparently their 'greater knowledge' would pass on to the next kid. ahaha
"..but, merits exists in everyone, just in different forms.."
This part of the quote really made me smile :D I thought about my own merits and the first one that came to mind was my optimism. I like to believe I'm also a very happy-go-lucky person. I can be serious and all too, but it's just that I very much prefer the optimist's way of life. Filled with the happy sun everywhere~ lol
Everything has its good and bad bits.
